At the center of the captivating rolling fields, lived a shepherd boy. His existence was unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was essentially to look after his flock of rams.
Their soft bleating and the whispering of the wind across the lone tree on the peak were his only co-dwellers. Day after day, looking out for his wards instilled in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.
But, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. In one such instance because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome scheme.
Tales of wild beasts hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a prank on the inhabitants.
One afternoon he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills for rescue but found no beast.
The boy chuckled at the puzzle on their faces. This trick continued for a few more days. But, one morning, a real wolf actually come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy raced for check here aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
